Cat growth thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the plunge into cats is definitly keeping me on my toes.

The jur kicked the vulture out of its hide under some dw and wont let it return but doesnt mind sharing the space with the polys. Jur has another scrape. Im gonna leave it in and see how this pans out.

Haha, pity shots of the evictee...

Your platy is safe. He's grown quite a bit lol.

I'm not sure. From the video, it looks like lil' platy would fit easy in the jaguar cat mouth, not that the plus size girls would be likely to do it but I'd not be entirely at ease with this. But maybe it's just the taped angle and positioning.

I think your giving jag cats a little more credit than is due, their mouths aren't that big in comparison to their body. If it was like a Trachy I'd agree with you. But jags mouths aren't that big imo. That platy looks safe to me.

Ik experiences vary, but I've not seen much for predatory acts from my cats yet.

Ik you're familiar with both but a picture for reference. My jag is about 4" and I don't see em eating anything over an inch.IMG_2404.JPG

Maybe try and setup a small ip camera during a 24hr period. See who the culprit is.

This would be the best bet to catch who it is. If it's the same as before I'd leave it in. Gotta remember cats don't have scales so a good grab does damage. But they heal from it good. Hell im not sure if you seen the pictures of my wyckii I had get attacked by my wolf. But I can show you if you'd like.

Well looks like we caught the culprit. I saw a couple of nips and thought id try and catch the bad guy. Screwed up i should have taken it out right away. But atleast i know who it is.

Both pelvic fins, anal fins and maxillary barbel were shedded.

It was the ornate. My son and i just sat and watch for a long time and we caught him in the act. We were thinking it could have been the vulture since its untouched. But we saw why. The vulture is extremely active and any time the ornate got near it would easily avoid it. The jur not soo much. Very lazy and poly like.

I feel like an idiot because you two know that the ornate has been a problem on and off ever since we got it 4 yrs ago and i completely miss judged what was happening in my tank. Hes always had an issue with smaller fish so i assumed the jur was fine since its pretty big.

Anyway at 1st i thought the jur wasnt gonna make it more because of stress than injury but its doing fine and recovering in a 150 gal.

The plan is to get the jur back to 100% put her back in the 300 and the ornate in the 150. If all goes well we'll know it was the ornate the whole time and feel safe with the current stock.

Yet again proud of my boy tho. I left the decision up to him since the ornate is literally his favirote fish but he does have a responsibility to the jur since its also "his" pet too.

If the jur gets attacked again we'll have to rehome it. BUT he said even tho he loves "nigel" (the ornate) he doesnt want his other fish to be around such an agressive poly. Lol he also said im sick of this sh$t dad lmaooo i didnt scold him because so am i but its the nature of the hobby lol

Sounds like a plan. And your son is funny lol hobby is always a good way to bond. Was for me lol. And man the ornate is like a testosterone feen, you throw em into rehab he comes out ok for awhile then relapses lol. Hopefully everything will be fine and you won't have to rehome anyone. Would suck because they're both gorgeous fish

Man its funny but hea always been a jerk. But is always worse when hes the dominante poly. We also caught him take a swipe at the teug and koloton. Another lapse on my part. Knowing that the sp.dabola/tinkisso kept the ornate in check i shoukd have remembered/known what expect.

Quick update on these guys.

The porthole is starting to put on some size, getting a little thicker. Also becoming allot more active and eating with some vigor.

Really excited to see how this guy turns out.
