The name says it all, in the next year or so I'm going to be setting up a 350g aquarium. The bottom is going to consist of a fire eel and a BGK, possibly a fancy pleco of some kind (LFS always has some neat varieties). There will be 3 large pieces of driftwood covered in moss/anubias and a system of rock tunnels around the driftwood with some crypts and other low light plants in aqua soil, then sand in the areas not soiled. I went around and around on tank mates and I've realized I have a couple breeding pairs of Severums, so why buy new fish when I can use the babies I already have. So how many would make for an exciting (and reasonable) grouping?

Also to clarify, using my own babies I would probably have the tank all males or all females to keep pairs from forming and going on rampages, provided that's a good idea? (Only ever had 3 adults in a tank together for the longer term and they were all females)

As long as you have a good footprint on the tank, I dont see why you couldnt keep 6-7 in that large of a tank with good filtration. as most severums dont get above 7-9" especially if you do all females. you could get some reds, greens, and gold. i think it would be pretty neat.

Having all males doesn't necessarily stop pairs from forming and taking over a good chunk of the tank. I've had a bunch of different males form pairs. I have two right now that have been cleaning a rock wiggling at each other and have taken over about 3 feet of a 4 foot tank since October.

Oh lovely... any thoughts on if severum females would do this?

At the moment all I have breeding are two greens and two golds, given the time difference between now and when I get the tank setup, I may try and get a pair of rockteils breeding, there are a lot of nice colors to pick from!

Probably. At the very least I think I'd be less irritated by it... :P Actually, might be worse, females would likely more aggressively guard a rock with eggs on it than males would guard just a rock.
