Jack and Jill, my Jack Dempsey growth and development thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So last month was rough, 3 weeks at 70deg, but everyone made it through ok.

So I have been thinking it over and I think that the catfish and or pleco may have eaten any eggs the pair may have layed. So with that in mind I moved them to other tanks. So now it's just them and the Bloodfin tetras in the tank.
Also all my fish got switched over to NLS food, this pair is eating the large fish formula 3mm sinking pellet, and they love it. They were eating Hikari gold 3mm sinking.
So over the last couple days I have been moving their tank temp from the 70deg. they was at up to 82. They been getting fin lvl water changes every day for 3 days now. And the last 2 days they were given soom frozen bloodworns. They just got out of a winter of sorts right....and now lots of fresh warm water and lots of good food may trigger a spawn....or so I hope. Here are some pics I got of them today.

So apparently the JDs went out and rented some heavy equipment. I wake up this morning and boy did they do some digging last night.

Look at that huge pit they dug out. Maybe, just maybe we will get a spawning.

there looking good, :)

The Wet Spot is my LFS I live about 30 min away less when tragic is light. I get all my fish from there. Thanks for the compliment, I try my best to give them a good home.
Cool, I got a lot of my fish from Wet Spot, plan to buy more. I might drive out and pick them up, from Boise, but will probably ship. Got them right when the box came it at our lfs. I love my Apistogramma I got through them, great stock.

OMG I just saved Jack's life. With all of this digging they are doing, I didn't see him for a few, looked around for him. No luck, then I notice the the flower pot has moved. So I reach in and move it, sure enough he is stuck in there between the pot and the tank wall, nearly fully buried in sand. He is barey breathing.....I wave my hand to cause some waves and move all the sand off of him. He comes to and swims off. Within five minutes he is back to normal like nothing happened and chasing Jill around and diggin in the pit again.

Nice save, pretty pair. I might have to get some JDs someday.

I love this thread. I’m hoping at least one of my pairs if not both has a good relationship like yours

This will be the last post in this thread. With all that has been going on lately it's time to be realistic.
I would love to keep both Jack&Jill, and Toni. But to get them both a 125 forever home don't sound all that plausible, especially living in an apartment again. So I must pick one of the two. My son was the one that picked out Toni, and named her and still text me daily to get pics of her I have to keep her.
As you read this Jack the EB is on an airplane flying to YankeeJacks place to be a part oh his JD colony. Jill I had to return to The Wet Spot.
Sad as I am to see them go, I know Jack is in great hands, and let's hope that Jill does as well.

Here are the final pics I got of them.
