New Year Canister Cleanout!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine is alot of work due the my cabinet, the doors are too small to pull the filter out, so I have to do all of the work with the canister still under the tank. I really didn't think it through when I put it in through the big openings in the back. One day I'm going to get brave enough to cut the door openings bigger.
I have an FX underneath one tank and although the openings are big enough to move the filter in and out, thank goodness,it is still a pita to do so in order to clean the thing....I have the FX sitting beside the stand on my other tank.

My wife would never let that happen, especially since the tank is in the living room. I also have been sitting on an fx6 from black Friday 2016 that I can't install. The openings only need an inch, I just can't find a sure answer if the stand would still be structural sound with the little cutting.

I'm sure my fx5 is gross inside, the Rena filstar canister is a breeze to move out and clean.

Oh yeah,if the tank is in the living room then everthing has to be just right and an exposed R2D2 next to the stand would not do.My tanks are all down in the basement.

I'm just glad to read that I'm not the only one that is gonna have access issues on my canisters :D On my 240g tank I set it up when I built it with a pair of fx5's, one on each end that are accessed through doors on the sides of the tank stand I built. I didn't want the doors in the front because I liked the clean lines of a smooth front maple stand.

Well that was a year ago, and now that I have started the remodel of adding the pair of 120g tanks in an L shape next to it. Now I get to play limbo to access the one fx5 on the left side. In the pic below the red X is where the filters are located under the tank. Accessing the left one now will require me to crawl under the one 120g and into the 2ft x 2ft dead spot in the corner. Might not sound all that hard until you realize I'm about 6'5" & 245lbs lol
