is this a normal thing for a betta fish to do? i have guppies in my tank as well as a black ghost knife fish and they seem to get on fine besides i saw one of the guppies nip a bit of the tail of the betta. he usually hangs out in the plants and comes out a lot more at night but he does occasionally pop out during the day. i got him about a day ago. i also noticed his scales seem to be fading? is this normal or something that i need to be worrying about? thanks

Hello; I suggest you isolate the betta right away. I learned than bettas (male) are vulnerable to having fins nipped.
The males swim slowly and the long fins are tempting targets. He looks damaged already.

hello; If nothing else suspend him in a net for the time being. Be sure he can get to the surface.

Hello; Pops is right the male bettas are tough to keep with other fish. They are too slow.

I also like to keep them at least 80 degrees F and with a fairly tight cover over the tank/bowl. I have come to think they need warm high humidity air above the water.
