What tank size to go with??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on which bichirs you have in mind. I would go with either with 96"x24" or 72"x36". I would stay away from the 18" height tank. I've noticed bichirs are more jumpy in lower tanks.

That makes sense seeing as it would make them feel like they are running out of water. I am pretty sure I am going with the 180 idea. I can get a reef ready one brand new for $750 or a non reef ready for $630 and just drill it myself. Which I’ll probably drill it myself but will probably test my glass hole cutting skills a few times before I drill the 180

Make sure the bottom of the tank is plate glass or you wont be able to drill it. If your having it predrilled do a little homework on the splumbing part before ypu order the tank. You wanna make sure they drill the bulkheads large enough and not end up with some skimpy 3/4 inch drains

Yeah im the interesting idea guy. Not that great at good ideas though:D

I didn't even think of that. I'll have to double check I'd like to at least have 1.5" drains. I could probably live with 1" drains if i had to though.

But you guys are going to have to help me out with the plumbing because in the 10 years I've been keeping fish, I have never had to or tried to plumb a tank. Though I am not completely lost when it comes to plumbing but I'll definitely need some help with fine tuning.

Of course we'll help. If you go full siphon depending 1 or 2 siphon i think 1 inch would be fine.

While u have time start researching plumbing/drain methods. Im familiar with dual herbie drains but have also heard allot of good things about beananimal.

I can post some links when u want

Sure go ahead and post whatever you think may be helpful. I would definitely want to go full siphon. I am also going to see what I can do about setting up a drip. The main problem i have is finding a good place to run the drain.

P.S. I'm digging the new avatar haha

Ok i'll post some stuff later. Im not one of those guys that thinks the way i do things or my methods are the best or be all end all i can only talk about the crap the i have experience with but that doesnt mean other methods arent as good if not better.

You should post innthe filtration section. Ask what plumbing methods everyone is using....ask tons of questions man.

If your bored and have time you can read through the looooong and often moronic build thread in my signature

Me either, I always keep an open mind because the day that you start to say your way is the best way or the only way to do it is the day you stop learning and gaining experience.

I know i've researched through the filtration section hundreds of times. I dont think it would be a bad idea to start a thread to get a few ideas.

Yeah, ill check that thread out, I know i have skimmed through it once or twice.
