You really can't go over 1200gph regardless your drains can't handle it. So yeah I'd go smaller controllable and quieter.
Man you are really making me consider drilling it myself. couldn't i just drill it and put strainers on it and not worry about a weir? then i would have more room in the tank and I could bump it up to 1.5 or even 2" pipe. How necessary is a weir??

It's the only way to get the flow you want. No you don't need a weir but there are a lot of benefits to having one. When I get home or some more time I'll see if I can find the link to a aftermarket overflow I found. If id have found it sooner I would have gotten the undrilled tank and drilled it myself. That's a risk though, but I've drilled a ton of tanks. I'm posting in between sessions of my 3 day managers conference in Texas. So kinda limited.

By conference do you mean mini vacation lol.

Are you referring to a hang on the back overflow? Because that’s a no go for me. I’ve heard too many horror stories

I agree with this. I drilled the back of my tank with three 1.5” drains and two 3/4” returns. Not having the weir really opens up the tank. I’ve seen both a 220 with and without and even though they are the same size tank mine without weirs looks much larger.

I’ll try to find my thread and post a link.

It’s nothing special, but it should work great as a grow out/hospital tank. You can definitely turn it into a sump if you want. My sump is a 55 and I really regret not going with a 75 or 90 instead.

Maybe if I can get my hands on it before they sell it I can use it as my guinea pig for the sump
