Getting ready to cast the base for my pond, but don't want to concrete the pipe work and bottom drain in. I would rather surface run them. Is there any reason why this cannot be done, it does not bother me being able to see pipework. My plan is to run the pipe to the lowest part of the pond, or form a small area lower than the rest of the base.

I do not see why not , this pond have a liner?

just to expand a bit, my department has a large water feature with water falls and all that, want to say160,000g water, I always have it drained by way of trash pumps to clean it, even tho it does have a drain valve. cheaper for the casino to put down the CB,s they go into a retention pond than into the sewer thats metered and cost per gallon.

I know this is an old post, but a bottom drain DOES NOT need to be concreted in. They even make retrofit bottom drains that just sit on the bottom of the pond and you run the pipe through the inside of the pond.
