I had a goose and a quail.I also had a rooster that would follow me around the house.had a duck once, did not like him.
So get some. I would go with 2 or three bantam hens, and get them as sexed chicks. They are easy to care for, quiet, cheap <$5 ea., unless they are some type of exotic, and don't need that much space, or to be kept indoors. If you get them as chicks, and give them treats and hold them, they'll love to cuddle, hand feed and be petted. Oh, they also lay eggs .I would love to have a duck or a chicken lol
You keep fish, and they won't come running when you call, snuggle, or lay eggs. They also cost more than eggsMy wife keeps mentioning that she wants to get chickens so we can get some eggs. But...if the only reason is for the eggs then they're a waste of money. Eggs are only $.25-.50 each, and they'll lay maybe 1 egg a day if you're lucky. They'd be way more than $.50 effort and food each per day.
Now, maybe a silkie or something exotic, they're cute.
