Tankmates for Bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I plan to use a sump filter or a large canister filter and do weekly water changes, the tank will be right by a sink so that will be easy, I understand the siphon and how to test PH and all that good stuff, just the prehistoric look of the bichir is really enough for me. Having the acara will add action to this tank. I have been researching since summer but I knew that coming here was the best option to find out info. But as long as the fish are happy, I’m happy.

Btw I’ve heard bichir dogpile, is this true? Also will I need to feed some veggies to the acara or can I feed it carnivore pellets like the bichir?

If I were to keep one poly can I keep a blue acara and a jewel cichlid or is to more fun to have multiple bichir?

Ok, I noticed that people said three bichir and one acara could I do two smaller cichlids and two bichir? Or is that really pushing it, also what other prehistoric type fish could I keep with bichir, I just want to see if I can have a “Jurassic Park” kinda feel to the tank

raphael catfish

you dont want the cichlid to be small enough to get eaten by an adult senegal/delhezi/polli

I'd say forget the small cichlids. Less chances for trouble :)
