Are polypterus night eaters? And did you mean put the tilapia where the aro can’t eat it? Or can eat? It really seems like he just swims pst the food at the bottom of the tank. Even picks it up and drops it like he’s not hungry or something.

Hikari Carnivore vs massivore?? I’m going to try to get the aro on Hikari food sticks. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter which type exactly but I would rather have him on food sticks. Then some thaw food and occasionally live feeders.

Im sorry i meant where the aro CANT get it. Bichirs are nocturnal but will learn to feed with the lights for now since its adjusting try feeding it after lights out.


Id go with carnivore since they are smaller. At 1st i would offer tilapia though. It will eventually settle in amd eat.

Id stay away from feeders. They can cary disease and if he gets started on them it may be harder to get him on pellets and tilapia

I can always cut any food into small pieces so it fits in their mouth. As far as the food, which is the best, carnivore or massivore. I hear a lot of different answer. I’m going to try tilapia tonight.

I couldnt provide an answer on which is better. I dont feed my polypterus hikari products.

Check the ingredients list on both. I think its the same formula just smaller sizes. Again i would go with carnivore because they should be bite sized

Based on the ingredient list, massivore is slightly better, maybe, due to the spirulina and seaweed content. But then again, the size makes it difficult to eat for a small fish.

There are other better food brands out there without any soy products, and only one binder product like wheat.

2nd the lights off idea. Whenever I’ve have a problem with a new fish not eating, having the lights off helps them feel comfortable enough to eat even aros Give the fish some time to settle in it could take up to a week for them to start eating.

I feed nls mega fish and chopped tilapia mostly. I also like to add in chopped silversides and night crawlers.

Nls mega fish is too large for your poly. Best to feed lots of worms, a decent pellet and tilapia. Try nls theraA. Even my big guys still go nuts for it. I wish they made a larger pellet size.

Try some frozen thawed out krill as well to get him to start eating. Most of mine ate with in the first couple days but I did have one that didn't seem to want to eat right away. He swam by pellets for the first 5-6 days till I bought some krill and thawed out and put in the tank. He sniffed that and started eating the krill then a few days later started eating pellets as well.
