What in the actual heck! Today I woke up and my baby bichir (5 in) was tossing around my juvenile aro (5 in) in his mouth. This makes no type of sense?????? My aro who is a top water swimmer got eating by a bottom swimmer who is basically blind and eats from smell? I am so confused. I’m very upset thinking that these two would be grow out and live together. I’m so mad he killed my juvenile aro, I don’t wish any of the two fish two die but the way everything happened made me really upset. Today was two weeks since I got him.

Sorry for your loss

I agree with the MrsE88 MrsE88 about Aro dying
prior to being found by the Ornate as I stated Aro are fragile at that size and imo should be grown out in a smaller aquarium until they are eating properly without tankmates so Juvenile Aro don't have to worry about competeing for food.
I personally raised baby Silver Aro's in smaller aquariums first .

I did a water change on Friday, about 20-25 percent. Added 1/4 tsp of SAFE. Everything seemed fine, the aro and bichir were eating frozen bloodworms and swimming around living their best life. My temperature is 84 degrees and water paremeters are good. I have no idea why the aro just suddenly died. I always check on them before I leave to work at 530, today was no different. When I got home I felt a little sick so I went to bed and forgot to turn on their lights to give them 8 he’s of light. When I go to turn on the lights the baby bichir was enjoying a tasty meal . It seemed like it just happened not more than an hour before I checked on them. They were about to eat too!

You sure that the arowana wasn't already dead, and the bichir tried scavenging on it? I've heard that bichirs can be aggressive though...

They where both eating. The aro would eat all of the food that floated and the bichir would everything that sunk to the bottom the tank. I would watch them eat and take out all the uneaten food right away. I enjoyed watching the little guys eat... and it seems like my water paremeters are on point.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I wish that’s what happened and not that the bichir killed him because tomorrow I’m getting an albino juvenile aro.
