Oh not too far at all!!! Nice to met someone so close that also enjoy fish!!Yep, I live south of you in Ded Reer.
Thank you!Oak,elm, hickory, old locust, all make good choices.
If u want to collect your own driftwood you should go down to a local body of water, look for hard(not squishy or very brittle) pieces with little or no bark.
Yeah,u can put it in a tub of water for a week if you are worried about hitchikers etc,Thank you!
I think I would be lucky to find an oak tree here lol
So are you suggesting if the wood is hard and not squishy I “might” be able to use it, without knowing what kind of wood it is!?
Are you positive about that? I did google if there were any oak trees around and there was two locations where it sounds like they were planted. I was going to take a drive and check it out lol....maybe I’m being optimistic lolLOL, the OP lives in Northern Alberta, Canada. No oak, no hickory, or any other real hard woods that can be found out in the back 40.
Lol that’s kind of what I was expecting if I did find themYou might find some oak trees in Edmonton, but I don't think that you will find a bunch of old dead wood laying around that will be suitable for aquarium use.
