I am trying to raise a single flowerhorn, in a 55 gallon tank. The fish I've bought range in size from 1.5 to 3 inches. Over a 5 week period I have not had any success. Within two days the fry are dead. All parameters, chlorine, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia are at optimal levels. Water is pristine clean. But the fish keep dying after only a couple of days. What else can I do. I have a second tank that is running perfectly. Even transferred some of the media and gravel tfrom old tank to new tank. I've already spent about 200 dollars on new fish. I've tested the water and even had it tested at the local fish store. I've also done 20 percent water changes every few days, even though parameters are good.

Sounds odd.... could anything be leeching chemicals in? What kind of filter/media, how and was the tank cleaned before you added Water?

I have a ton of filtration., two eheiem model 4's and two nice size sponge filters. It was cleaned before I added water several months back. Also, have an airstone.

What was it cleaned with? Chemical wise? Any odd decoration? Sorry my caffeine hasn' kicked in yet and the only thing I can think of is a lethal chemical leeching from something. Chinese made cheap decoration or chemical left over from glass,.... how is temp?
I would think after that much time if it were chemical related most would have dissipated by now.

I have plastic decorations and rocks in the tank The artificial plaNTS are marineland BRAND.Should I pull everything out including rocks. Everything was cleaned with filtered tap water.

What do you consider optimal levels for chlorine, ammonia, and nitrite? What dechlorinator are you using? How often are you doing water changes in your other tank?

Ammonia and Nitrite are all in the zero range. Nitratesc are under .5. I use seachem prime as a dechlorinator. And I've doing water changes every three days.
