the hardest thing about fish keeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I get bummed out over losing a fish no matter how long I have had it and after all my years of fishkeeping I think I have finally conquered what has been the hardest part....which is buying more and more fish.

I would say the hardest thing is not going ballistic and overboard. Last time I ended up with so many tanks and then building ponds. Had to downsize. There are so many things I would love to keep again. Another Rhom, wolf, peacock mantis etc. Many of which need to be solitary. I only have my 8ft tank left and it will have to do!!!
If I could only win the lotto!! That is the hardest thing for me.

The hardest thing for me is impulse buys.
I’m very patient with growing fish. I love watching them grow from fry size. But I know I’m pretty topped out right now and it’s been making me feel really bad. In a month or two tops that will all change. I’ll have my tank upgrade for my terrors, and my koi and fancies will be moved to the pond. But till then things are getting stressful:(

And to top it all my favorite fish store has a white saum I’d love to have. I’d happily trade one or both baby gold saums for the white. Lol.

If things fall into place..... maybe.....

Good thread.

Wife doesn't care, no issues with impulse buys, maintenance isn't horrible.

For me it's aggression and deaths. Not the serious stuff which is obvious but it's the minor nipping. I automatically start thinking of rehoming the trouble maker instead of waiting it out. Losing a fish sucks wether it's something I've had for yrs or weeks.

Making time. Waterchanges take so long for me. Cleaning canisters blows to. I'm about to kick them all to the curb

I felt the same way before switching to sumps. I f I had to I'd rather use hobs over cans...never again lol

Impulse buying.

"Oh look baby albino Oscars! I wish I had room for one of them"

*5 mins later leaves LFS with bagged baby albino Oscar*. This was 2 days ago lol.

I did the same thing but ended up with 2 because I wasn't sure if they would both make it

I just had to take one of my precious albino veilyailed oscars to a friends house because the whole tank decided she was a target.
