I’m making a thread to track my pond/fish over time. I figured I’d start now while I’m impatiently waiting for spring. Mid March and we are expecting a snow storm again this weekend >.<

I’ll start with giving some info about the pond.

It is 11’ x 11’ and 4’ 4-5” deep. It has a small shelf around the edge and slightly slanted sides. Roughly around 3,000gal.
I run a uv sterilizer to keep the water clear. The pond gets lots of sun most of the day. So some type of uv was a must.
The filter is a flow-through filter my husband and I made. It will need to be upgraded as our fish grow, but for now works great.

Right now everything is shut down. Just a 1500watt heater and bubbler are running. I did have a tarp over the pond, but removed it earlier in the month. The weather man lied and it looked like we’d be in the high 50’s by the 16th. Well.... we weren’t. We got snow and will be getting even more now. Ugh. This was their first winter outside, so I’ve been a little on edge waiting for spring.

The reason we built the pond was because we needed an upgrade from the 200gal pool in our basement holding our 10 koi, 2 shubunkins, and 2 ryukins. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we bought them for our little 175gal preformed pond. Haha

My husband came up with the name of the pond. I love carving rocks, so I’ve made a stone for each beloved pet we have lost. Those stones are now gathered at the pond. So memorial pond sounded fitting.

Now for the fun part, pictures:)

The pond now with the leaf net over it still.

These are the fish I’ll be adding once the pond is started back up. 3 koi, a Black Moore, and a red cap oranda.

And I don’t have any pictures of the stones out by the pond, but I did have this one I took after I finished making them.

I covered the pond with a tarp today. Getting ready for the snow storm they say is coming. I hope it’s not as bad as last time, but covered the pond just in case.

No, no natives. Just my koi, fancies, and the two shubunkins.
Ah pity, all those ponds have the same stock, go to any ornanental pond and everyone has the same stock, koi and goldfish, zero variation
(Sorry for the rant)

No worries. Most ponds do tend to have the same kind of stocking. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’m not against natives either. I just wouldn’t want to mix them with my koi.

I hear that all the time, it's why I kinda got out of the game.
I've heard really weird reasons for not mixing them to from theyll outcompete my fish, beat up my fish etc.

Can we get any more koi pics (especially the blue back).

I’m not worried about them out competing my koi. If anything I think my koi would starve anything else. Lol They are very greedy eaters.
Beating up my fish is my worry. For more aggressive natives anyway. Lack of top color is another reason I’m not motivated to add them.

And I’d be happy to post more pictures of the koi.
Here is the blue one, Draco. 5A6848B2-E709-4A22-8A76-70C07F2E9176.jpeg
These are pictures of the herd from last year.

And my two ryukins. I was taking pictures for a show held over the winter. They took first and second place:) B2532773-8B51-4976-B1DA-CDD6950BE568.jpeg4BCC6EEA-4240-4279-8CC7-DD946A78A77B.jpeg
