Nice koi, I think garbage is the prettiest.
If you get another koi, what kind are you leaning towards?

In the blue tub her colors show better then in the pond. She is a pretty koi, but too messy for my liking.
The shubunkins are both females. And yes very fat and eggy. Lol I let them know if they put any males in their pond they might get a spawn from them. They said any babies will be headed back my way:rolleyes:

I have a few varieties I’m interested in. Chagoi, kumonryu, ochiba, koromo, goshiki, or a tancho goshiki.

My son and I took advantage of the rainy weather and caught some worms this morning. D6E7BE10-5980-4C6C-8DD9-E771323732EC.jpeg
And we fed some to the fish.

And a few other random pictures of the herd. I’ve been playing around with a new lens my husband got me for my phone. 5480415C-F5D0-49C3-A7F1-1354F90DD466.pngAD1DDBB3-39CC-40F5-B42A-531F58667DEA.jpeg E283128E-A246-4908-81B5-04C11C51F440.jpeg0BC0BADA-54F6-429C-A3AB-F84C9D0C1DBE.jpeg

What's the blue thing in your hand?
I used to have a rain powered worm trap that I created, would catch several pounds of worms when it rained

Lol, that’s my nail. I had on blue nail polish. You can’t see, but I was feeding them slugs.

That sounds awesome! Do you have any pictures of the trap by chance?
I had to catch these guys by hand. Between the cat and son following me around I missed out on some. These guys are fast.

No picture but how about I tell you how to bait them?
Put coffee grounds under a log or other similar object, wait a day, then flip log and grab worms, place worms in container with a lid,and topsoil with a piece of banana or some bits of news paper, after 24 hours or more in container feed to fish.

Description of how to make a worm trap: find a outlet from a storm drain (find area with few/no chemicals), find a flattish rock, place rock where water will wash over it when it rains, dig a small hole under the front face of the rock(this is where worms will be trapped as they get blown into there by water current).
Check within a few hours after rain.

I never thought to bait worms. I’ll have to save some old grounds. Or do you use fresh? I make rounds nearly everyday turning over rocks and wood boards to collect worms, grubs, and snails. I’ll have to see if baiting will increase my collection amount.

The worm trap sounds awesome, but I have no drains like that on my land.

You can use new or used coffee grounds, I prefer new.

So we just had a heatwave that broke yesterday. The pond temp went from 76f to 70f in the last couple days. It’s been cloudy and we’ve had a lot of rain.
I dropped a diy spawning mop in the pond yesterday. My koi have hit 3yrs old and my females are looking fuller this year. So I thought I’d see what happens.

To my surprise we have activity this morning!
I took my dogs out a little before six this am and went to check on the pond. I see most of the herd are gathered by the netting. 82B9D675-5AEE-4395-9564-C52893DB25E4.jpeg8DF234B9-CA73-43F8-9F23-CE46F5A48F59.jpeg
Upon closer inspection it’s not what I expected. The koi are not spawning, but my fancy goldies are! Now, I’m not sure what will come of this. As you can see the koi are making quick work of cleaning up the eggs.
The ones causing this commotion are the gold and white ryukin and my year old black moor.

My red and white ryukin keeps getting in there too, but I don’t think she is doing anything other then eating eggs like everyone else.
And even if any eggs make it I’m not sure my male is old enough to fertilize them. He is so young. The females are 3 and have never spawned before.
So we will see.
