For me, it's the big tank aspect that makes MFK unique. When you have big fish, you need big fish housing. I joined MFK nearly 12 years ago because I had questions about filtration for my 300 gallon tank. While the answers to my initial question were not helpful, "you can't have enough filtration", I ran into a reef man who set me up with unique mechanical filtration, and my tank builder found a wet/dry filter that has worked well for us. Even though I didn't get real help for my initial questions, I stayed on MFK and learned a lot. Let's face it, no one uses sumps on 29 gallon tanks. But what does one do when their fish tank is too big for just plopping on a HOB filter? For me, that's the beautiful part of MFK--the discussions of sump designs, internal/external overflow boxes, herbie, bean animal plumbing for silent overflows, ReeFlo pumps. What other fish forum has discussions on Ultima II filters? The Set Up/Filtration and the DIY forums on MFK are really great. JK47's plumbing pictures are works of art and motivate me to strive to a higher level. There are some really really great parts to MFK.
