Adopting this juvie Midevil cutiepants killer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice looking fish, I'm not sure if you've actually had a look under the hood, but that fish looks male to me. Either way it looks good, continued success buddy.
I have had a look, but I am bad at sexing non-salmonid fish, meaning I am new at it. You may well be right.

Thank you for the kind words, we are having fun with the hobby, the gf and I. We have only kept fish for a year now. I have been breeding Apistogramma and now we have viable discus eggs.

I quickly realized I needed a fry culling protocol, considered using clove oil but, I think this Midevil will do. Had one male Apisto get his tail chewed completely off, Scampers made short work of that. A bit more gruesome than I am accustomed to, but fish are fish, circle of life yadayada.
Here are bonus shots of our SA community tank, literally my first aquarium ever, and some pics of a couple discus just for fun. Thanks again, cheers!

Doing a good job buddy. Got to love the fish with personality, despite the toll it can take on tankmates. Red Devils are definitely tough, never trust them to play nice, but they are great fish.

He has been, and will continue to be, a solo fish. Unless I get a larger pleco specie some day, which I know is still a risk. Thanks again, having a blast here!

No judgement here buddy, keep them as you please, just don’t want you to get suprised by the violence. You never know though, you could always find a mate for your fish on this forum or elsewhere. She/he doesn’t necessarily need to live alone.

I would really like that. Keeping animals is most fulfilling for me when successfully breeding them, too. Putting a divider in the new tank would be pretty easy, for a female’s security.

Are there any interspecies tank mates that might work? This fish is pretty timid, I don’t think he would harrass another large fish too much. Hard to say...I know Amphilophus vary a lot and can be murderous. I will do some research. This is a 6’ tank with the same profile as a 55, just longer. Makes it about 86 gallon actual volume. An old All Glass reef tank design.
