We have been having a problem with trumpet snails... To say the least! I tried setting out homemade traps, regular water changes, decreasing the amount of food,... We tried lots of things. I decided to go get some assassin snails. I started out with one, and it completely disappeared. I went and got four more... But now all there are is empty shells in the tank. Will bichirs eat assassin snails?! Has anybody else had any trouble with this? And if so, what's the best way to get rid of these stinkin trumpet snails?!

Hmm. You don't by chance know of a place that rents out puffers, do you? I want the trumpet snails gone, but I don't really want a puffer.

Yes it will, if you have a poly already it will be hard to put a puffer in the tank, pea puffer is the smallest puffer, other puffer might bully the sen.
Is there any kind of puffer that would get along with my tank? 1 bichir (6.5 inches), 1 bristle nose (about 5 inches), spotted gourami (4 inches), Madagascar rainbow fish (2.5 inches) and lake kutubu rainbow fish (2.5 inches).

I think Assassin snails burrow just like the MTS.
I am not sure that a puffer will eat MTS, they may be too hard.
I have a pair of Kribensis in my 55. My female is only a little more than 2", so she might end up as lunch, but my male is 4", so maybe you could get a male or two? It's a shame, because my female is way more colorful and outgoing than my male, who is skittish and picks on my angels. She is my favorite fish. Before they went in, the tank was covered in MTS. A week later they were almost all gone. There a few in there now, a couple of months later, but only a handful, and never out in the open.
