530g Tank Setup and Plumbing Help :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1) the union is a male threaded end that threads into the female threads on the Ultima head unit. The other end is female slip.

2) use thicker tape like the grey mighty stuff. It will match your plumbing better. Do not use any type of putty or cement or it voids the warranty. Use on roll per union. That will feel like too much. It isn’t and you may end up using a whole roll to stop a leak after it’s running anyway.

3) You can swap out the white for grey schedule 80 no problem. Order a male thread x male spigot from BRS in 1.5” and it will keep your plumbing clean and not as bulky.

jsodwi jsodwi does some killer work! That looks great

For the union did you mean slip x male spigot? Doesn’t look like BRS has such unions. Can I just do a slip x male thread and then use a threaded nipple to connect to the ultima?

A male spigot x male thread nipple. A standard slip union.

JK47 JK47 is there a reason you didn’t leave the base of your stand exposed? I was thinking of doing that because it makes clean up easier when I spill stuff I figured. What did you use to line your stand? Does that dampen the pump at all. My biggest worry is actually there being an issue with clean plumbing due to all equipment sitting on the floor and needing to go over the stand frame.

Greats news, tank arrives tomorrow!!! Have 3 folks coming over to help move it and I decided to invest in some heavy duty suction cups. If need be, I’ll throw some extra cash to the drivers for help.

Yes there is a reason I do this. My tanks are on an uneven surface so the stands are leveled with steel blocks. If a sump, filter or plumbing is crooked to the tank it shows up in uneven and misaligned plumbing that I can never unsee..

I use nylon sheets but any rubber mat would serve the same purpose for much less cost. I use a 3/8” rubber mat under pumps for vibration dampening.

Really excited to see how you out this together. Enjoy the processs. The amount of learning you’ll experience as you build this is priceless.

Questions for the acrylic experts JK47 JK47 and wednesday13 wednesday13 I just got the tank. No damage from delivery but I will say there are some minor things i would like in out. Here are couple pics.

1) Corners have this minor spot where it looks like the panes were not bonded. Should I just use Weldon on these and which type?

2) there are some minor bubbles in the seams. Very few and far between. Do I need to be worried? I don’t think so?

Overall if the above is minor, I am happy with the tank. Service response was great, and we will see what their response to the above pics are. I think have two issues. The first is that they only used styrofoam and black plastic wraps for shipping, no crate. The tank arrived with the styrofoam and wrap damaged and both I and the delivery company were amazed the tank was not damaged. The second is that you can see they were a little sloppy with some of the seams where there is extra Weldon. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue but with my plans of bare bottom, it bothers me. Pics below. For those considering them, this is where price comes into play. This tank (8x4 with 3/4in acrylic everywhere) cost me $3,749 shipped. That’s a great price for a new tank and was about $1,500 to $2,000 cheaper than others.
