He is breathing out of both spiracles. I have read about caughing but not sure what that looks like keepinfish keepinfish

It is quite obvious when they cough but you have to watch very carefully. May only do it out of one spiracle and can take up to a minute to see it.
Personally I would treat with fluke solve to be on the safe side.

Here is the US Prazi pro is the closest thing we have. one treatment isnt enough, treat as the label says! It will take 2-3 treatments if it is indeed flukes.
 
Late to the conversation, I agree with the above. I would treat with praziquantel and keep the water quality high. You've already separated which I would also recommend. Keep him eating is the #1 thing. Is he still feeding?

Thanks Jim. I have started prazi yesterday afternoon. Dieselhybrid Dieselhybrid no he has stopped eating since Sunday. Have tried night crawlers, black worms and usual diet.
He is still breathing heavy. Water conditions are ph 7.6, ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 20.

I dosed prazi it's been 24 hours still not eating but behaving well. Breathing heavy still but active outside out that.

try chopped earthworms and/or live blackworms. Keeping them eating it key

Sounds like a classic case of gill flukes to me.
I have had this a few times and treatment is normally effective after around 5 days.
Some say 24hrs to see a change but my experience is 5 days to see a real noticeable improvement.
Be sure to follow the instructions.
Do you run UV?
If not, you should as its very beneficial.

No UV but I have ordered 1. My friend said the same. Thing. I'll keep up with the treatment and keep the water quality pristine. Thanks for the help guys. I'll do what I can and hope for the best
