Hey guys, I have been trying to figure whether or not this is the vaillantti species. At the store, they have named it the brachyplatystoma sp. vaillantti, but I can't really tell, as I have never really seen juveniles. I have also referenced off some Google images, but still unsure :/

Those pictures I have attached are the best ones I took. They're always moving so it's hard to get them still.

What do you guys think ?

Many thanks!

That looks like Pimelodus pictus. Juvenile B. vailantii probably looks like juvenile filamentosum or capapretum, no record of the juvenile vailantii ever found like juvenile lince catfish.

GiantFishKeeper101 GiantFishKeeper101 ahh I see. Thanks! I totally agree with your assessment. The store is selling them for $350 a piece, so the price seems way off then.

I am interested in them, but the price so high considering they could be just pictus. Oh well :/

Anyone else have any thoughts? thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter

Thanks guys

To me too they do not look Brachyplatystoma at all but Pimelodus, most likely pictus in stressed pale coloration.

It looks like someone is attempting to pull a fast one passing of a $5-$10 fish for a very rare and expensive one.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter thanks for the input! Mmm, I really thought it could have been a rare species of some sort given the price tag, but I guess not.

Glad you both chimed in! :)

Aghh, I think I'll pass on those. I'll look for cheaper pictus then haha

Haha... For $350 you could buy 47 pictus at $7.50 a piece.
