I don't really have a "better" option really. I know the eshopps brand is more reliable then the db of diy ones. But ive had those fail also only once in 2 years but it did fail.

That is the one I had. CPR makes one too as do others.
I dont know I could never get the diy one to work correctly enough for me to trust using it in my house. I tested it for a few days outside. At first it was great and then lost a little and a little more and over about 3 or 4 days was running at about half capacity. The only time the eshopps one failed me was after a day long power outage. That was random because the power had gone out before and it never lost prime but that time it did. It also never did the weird random flow thing I experianced with the diy one.
Or get a big canister filter. But I'd rather have a sump.
Oh. That looks nice. Looks like I don’t have to drill with that design.

It’s a pretty old tank so I don’t feel confident drilling a hole. I get that would be the best but I don’t plan on this being my permanent set up. Don’t want to spend too much money until after I move.

Sorry for the late reply.

I dont trust the HOB overflows. I had one fail and flood my garage. I trust the DIY ones even less. If drilling the tank isnt an option then i would pass.

It’s starting to look like I am just going to keep an eye out for another canister. Thank you all for your input.

What size tank and what filtration do you currently have ?

It’s a 180 with a fx5 and up until the other day I had the sump running. We figure there is debris and sand lodged in the u channel that is most likely slowing the overflow down. My wife woke me up at 2 am telling me it was about to overflow. I’m like”wtf are you doing up at 2 am looking at my fish tank in the dark?” Lol.

Lmaoooo.
If it were me i woukd just slap a ac110 on it. This filters are extremely underrated man. They hold a decent amount of media and are work horses. Cans are just such a hassle to maintain.

With out the sump running are you registering ammonia or notice a bug difference in clarity? I had an fx6 and ac110 on a 150 and the combo worked fine. If i were to ever set up a sumpless tank again i would skip the cans and go with a few ac110s

Yeah if you do an ac110 put a sponge on the intake for mech and fill it with bio. Great combo!

That’s perfect I have one just sitting in my storage rm. I can check the levels but seems to be doing well so far. Just decreased my bio load 10000 times when I got rid of the pacu. Lol.
