Do i need to do water changes if i have good filter

I know you've been doing a lot of work and tinkering about with this very subject. How far do you realistically think you're away from running tanks that would never ever need water changes?

Purigen in a moving bed combined with (literally) the whole tank volume in denitrifying media in a slow flow reactor ( separate to the main aerobic filter) got me to consistently zero nitrates in a 180 pleco tank... but that didn’t make up for the evaporation demineralisation. I still did (albeit small) WC’s weekly.
Eventually I just gave it up ... was easier to do the WC’s.

With the right equipment water changes are so easy, I don't think whole fancy systems are worth the money for reducing nitrates..

I have to turn 6 valves, wait 30 minutes, then turn on one more valve, wait 7 minutes, turn off 2 valves, open one valve wait 7 minutes. Then close 3 valves, then open 4 valves. It's a lot simpler than it sounds.

Yall lucky. I don't have enough tanks to validate an automatic water changer in my opinion. I'm stuck doing them with my python but hey, at least I'm not doing them by bucket.

That's quite high, would you mind telling me how it got to that point?
