Flint town!
Ok so I'm going to be putting my schoutdeni puffer in a 75g. I had a 75 with a custom background from before I set up my 180. I had planned on using that, but the background is going to interfere with putting in a overflow. I measured off a little so id have to damage the back ground and I dont want to do that. So I got a new 75. I am going to paint the back but what color? Ive done black. Not a big fan of blue. I will be planting this and it will most likely have drift wood of some sort and ive got a few big chunks of petrified wood I was going to put in too. As for plants not sure yet. I have some hygro pinnatifida growing out right now. Was also thinking buce on spider wood branches? Ive seen some green painted and thought it was cool but cant remember who's or where they are. Was thinking of maybe a couple shades of green fading to yellowish toward the top...?
Input?

Well personally I think that if you're gonna paint a tank it's best black.

Go get a couple of color boards from hobby store and place them against the back of the aquarium. I personally use black material to cover my aquariums but green may work for you.

I would paint it white if was to put wood and plants in it. It would make the plants pop out really well. Ive seen it been done with bigger tanks and it looks really cool.

I've been toying with the idea of painting branches, then rolling black once the branch painting is dry. I think it COULD look cool, or it could look cheesy as f (like a store window advertising bargains at Halloween time).
I recently picked up a 220 acrylic (center drilled, unfortunately) that I am going to be setting up against a red brick wall. I really can't decide whether to leave the back clear, paint it black, or Bob Ross some wood....
Hood luck with your decision!

That branch idea is rather interesting josh. If you do decide to do it then please make a thread and tag me in it :).

White would look nice but will require more up keep to keep it looking nice. Every little blemish that grows will show and make the tank look dirty.

What about a dark green? It would make plants pop without making it feel so much like looking into a tank. Darker and more subdued colors seem to keep fish more at ease too.

Its a cool idea! You'd have to put your shadows on first, then the branches, then the background fill. With careful planning and aplication it could be made to look 3D. You've got me itching to try it out on one of my tiny tanks to see how it might turn out.

Get a piece of construction paper/poster paper and try that, in the colour you are thinking of. It is cheap. If you still like it after a week, then go ahead and paint that colour.
