Funny a bowfisher will kill gar all day, and then I'll hear them complain about money, after he kills several Gs worth of fish, personally I say keep it and breed it.
He doesn’t know the value of the fish he kills so can you really blame him? That’s like any of us killing lizards for a living and we kill a lizard that’s worth 100k to the right buyer, we didn’t know since we’re fish keepers not reptile keepers. Well most of us anyway.
I've read that the gar has been something of a hated fish in it's areas...are they even eaten at all?
Some eat them, but we get a lot of ignorant people who claim they wreck sportfish populations, even though there are tons of studies that show that they really don't, a big gar is lucky if it eats once a week
So long story short a lot of people kill them and let their bodies rot, poisoning the water and shoreline with rotting meat.
People like them are the reason we need to inform the community when fish come to the highlight.
Damn,one would think that the local fishing authorities would put something in place to educate the anglers for conservation's sake.....unless they have and are being disregarded and ignored.
