New 125 gallon Diy stand build

So here's my project for the day.

I wanted to share this and maybe get some input from people that might have done this before.

I recently ordered a 125 gallon tank from my local Lfs and after finding out that I'd be paying more for a pre made stand than what I did for the actual tank, I decided to build my own. Plus I thought it'd be a fun project

I have basically used a basic design using 90% 2x6 wood, except for the reinforcement for the legs and the bracing. I have heard that using all 2x4 would he enough but I figured I'd play it safe and used 2x6 for the main legs and supporting bases.

Here's my progress for today. Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.

Yeah I'm still trying to decide on the wrap.

I'm thinking about maybe doing a simple pine board wrap and then stain it.

I also kinda like the open look right now, looks very rustic, but I'm thinking that once I add the canister filters under, it's going to look messy.

look into the picket fence wood at home depot, it's $2.99 (or less) for a 6x 5 1/2 board. It's made for fences. I stacked them horizontally on my stand and cut out doors. I used glue and finishing nails to attach.

MUCH cheaper than pine board and looks better IMO, more knots and grain in the wood.

I sanded them smooth, burt the wood lightly with a propane torch and just stained a light brown. Looks rustic

I'm loving that stand. The black external hinges and rustic look remind me of a pirates treasure chest, ohh arrr Jim lad, shiver me timbers, walk that plank you sea dog, pieces of eight pieces of eight. Sorry, got carried away there for a moment.

So mainly due to funds available I decided to not fully skin the stand for now and see how it looked with what I had available. I figured I could always go back and skin it in place.

Funny enough I had an old fence panel that I never used from when I had to replace our fence last year after the hurricane and was able to make barn looking doors out of it!

I added a few more 2x4 for bracing as well and installed the top and top trim. Again, all from post hurricane panels and scrap wood... haha

So here's were we are now. Next step, staining
