6ft or 8ft tank for this space?

I would go 8ft.. just make sure the floor can support the extra lbs. And build a taller stand for easier access to sump/filtration. Clown loaches love the height as well.. I used to have a group of cl's in a 6ft tall tank.. loved seeing them zip up and down.

Thanks for the link to your video.

Thinking back on it, I guess I remember people saying footprint is more important than height, but yeah it makes sense that they can use the height as well.

I just thought about how 24" is only 2" higher than my current tank and i can tell my fish would enjoy a way taller tank.

I'm limited by what I can fit through the door, which I think is 30". Anything bigger would have to be built here or I guess lifted by crane to go through the sliding living room door, which is out of my budget.

I have to research the weight issue but good news is I have concrete floors in this building.

The biggest thing would be depth front to back. As long as you can reach the back from the front you'd be fine. If it was 4' deep it'd be a pain to maintain the back half of the tank without climbing in.

What would you think is the max width you'd be comfortable having no side access to?

I'm starting to think the wall to.the right is a better idea if I'm willing to get rid of the table. Wall is 8ft there I think and a few inches could stick out, but I'd worry about scratches there as people would walk right by there upon entering my place.

The right side of the tank would be accessible as well as the front with that orientation.

I'd have to read more to figure out if I'd be comfortable with the 1/2" thinkness. I think I read a thread where someone had no problems with the tank but I also recall other threads where people said they'd rather bump up to 3/4" just for extra piece of mind.

I pulled out the tape measure. I'm not good at making sure it was straight but there might be 98" clearance where that tank currently is located. Obviously, when I'm getting close to actually purchasing, I'd have a friend that knows how to professionally measure everything come in.

The wall to the right side is 109" and I had tape measure on the floor so it's probably close.

I'm guessing this new info gives a better argument for putting the tank there. There would be room so it won't get bump coming in (which I feared might be an issue) and I'd have better access to the tank. I'd also be able to view the tank from an extra side and have the overflow on the other end.

Drawbacks is it takes more space than having the tank pushed back where current tank is. It's also not right next to sink so I can't drain a regular syphon right into the sink. I think this isn't an issue as if I upgrade the tank, I think I'm for sure having an auto water change or drip system plumped in.

There could also be room in the back wall for a smaller tank if I wanted to indulge MTS. That or put some shelves so I don't have food everywhere like I have now.

Anyway, it's good you know that I could buy the 8ft tank and if it looked too snug on that current area, then it can go along the right side.
