Waterproof lighting ?? options

Hi all,



I have blown a few lights/globes in two of my tanks, they are "6ft aqua one" and a "4ft Fluval" tank, both have the built in lights in the tank top cover and both have at least one blown globe.

There are no glass tops in these tanks so it seems that moisture gets into the lighting and destroys it, i am sure that is probably a common problem. They are all the T8 style with supposedly waterproof fittings, who knows, it could be the ballast or something that actually goes on these but i am sure its moisture related ...

I had used an normal 4ft led light from Blue Planet (i think it was Blue Planet anyway) on the 4ft Fluval in the cover (after the built in globes went) but moisture got to that too and stuffed it up.

So what i am after is ideas on actual waterproof LED lighting , i dont want to go down the path of "Make My Led's" as i want to stay away from tubes of any sort and hopefully just go with complete waterproof units from a store, i f i need to i will fit a couple of braces to hold the lighting under the hood/cover if i need to

Any ideas will be appreciated

This isn't my tank but give you the idea of what i am talking about if you don't know the type

I tied 6 LED tubes to the inside rims of my 75 gal tank which are semi submerged at all time. Here is a glimpse on how they look like. Make sure you select diodes rated 0.2 Watt minimum each or else they will likely be too dim.

The Fluval Aquasky line of lights have a ip67 waterproof rating. Mine spans across the top of an acrylic tank with open tops, have accidentally poured water on it and no issues yet over 1.5 years now.

I am also looking for a led strip i can use in my plywood tank that can withstand enclosed, humid conditions. Let me know if you find a good one.

That and plant spectrum and also the reef full spectrum are waterproof

Just having a look at the Aquasky, looks pretty good but do have a few questions
Jexnell , happy for any other comments from others as well.
I like most of us use timers on my lights, with the remote for this Aquasky is that an issue ?
Can you program into the remote on/off and not use a timer at all ?
Can you program other light effects it can do to start/stop at certain times ?

It does say it has memory setting but i cant seem to find info if that can be set by time of day

It looks like a really good option if it can do those things

I don't have a timer on mine. So I can't say how it works with one. The four memory buttons are for custom light setting. You can adjust the white/red/green/blue amounts then save that setting.
They have a separate module you buy that can control two lights. With it you can do the programming you are looking for.
For instance.
First have it do the sunrise function. Then the day light setting you want. Then the sundown feature. And finally the night light you want. After setting it up will do it automatically. But still can overide what's it currently doing so say show lightning mode to a friend or what have you.

Hi Again

So after a little research it seems the Fluval Aquasky light is a good option but the Fluval LED controller is an absolute piece of junk. (apart from that none of my LFS have the LED controller anyway and not a fan of buying online if a product may be iffy).

So this puts me in a predicament, i really like the idea of a controller performing a sunrise/sunset and additionally be able to mimic a storm or moonlight etc even if the storm feature was manually started

Any other options for waterproof lights that have those types of functions
