The recent issue in the Lounge...

Hello; Hendre's expansive post got me to thinking. Seems pretty clear the gentle lady is upset with us, we the disgusting members who violated her personal code, also now with the administrators who did not figuratively grind us into pixel dust and take up her cause.
Consider this if you will. Think back to the bakery business that was targeted because they would not decorate a cake a certain way. Perhaps think of the KY clerk who lost her position. Perhaps this site has been a target in a similar way. Could we all involved have stepped into a clever trap? I think pop's is ok as he stayed out of most of it.

Wow, sorry this happened. It's difficult to say what may or may not have took place in ones life to leave such a slant on their viewpoint. I don't get it, but I don't know Amy (Lilyann) personally. Clearly she deserved to be banned, I would have dropped the hammer as well. But I'm not going to celebrate.

Hello; Afraid I only partly agree with this. While true I joined this forum for the fish, the lounge has become very important to me. I continue to take part in the dedicated fish threads in areas of experience and interest. That part of the site is the basis for the existence of the forum but not all I come back to see.We are all here for the passion of monsterfishkeeping, all else is just a distraction.
I do not disagree with the characterization of the lounge being a distraction. However I very much like the distraction. We have personalities in the lounge and I feel closer to those I interact with. Some days I do not want to deal with an overstocked tank issue or someone who does not use a QT.
I happen to look at it this way. While I may not quit the site if the lounge gets damped down much more, I will not make a point to visit each day. Now that I am writing this my thinking becomes more solid. I enjoy the lounge more than the other forums most days.
I get that you and the other mods have the final say so. I get that there is little I can do about it. I have not liked the way some threads have been handled over time, but I get such is the way things go for us without authority. But if my voice counts in any manner then I am for the lounge and the distraction it can be.
I have been keeping tank for over 50 years. Well over 40 of those years before I discovered web fish sites and this site in particular. I have as of a few years ago quit all the other sites because they censor and restrict too much. This site has for as long time allowed fairly open discussions both about fish topics and in the lounge.
Sure things get to be too much in the lounge from time to time and some level of control is proper. I do get frustrated when some of the more enjoyable threads are closed or deleted entirely when individual offending members could be dealt with. I am trying to be civil now and do so most of the time on here but I get closed down just the same as the rowdy folks when a good thread is closed or deleted. I will stop now.
I don't want to police the lounge anymore than you want us to police the lounge. For the most part y'all are fine.
Quite frankly, after dealing with this person myself, I understand why y'all treated her the way you did.
And you wear that glove very well, Rob. Personally I think that you put up with far more sheet than most would.
For myself, it's not about what offends me, as much as it is my extremely low tolerance level for idjits. I don't visit the lounge often because I have little interest in most of what is posted here, and if the lounge closed tomorrow I probably wouldn't notice for weeks. Having said that, I would prefer that the distractions remain in the lounge, than on the fish keeping side of the site. Lately I find myself growing weary of reading stupid sheet, posted by those that should know better. For others I guess they are just too dumb to get it.
This coming from someone who is rarely offended by anything, or anyone. I just don't see the point in certain things. Like fishheads new sig line. The purpose of that is what exactly? Gain entrance in to the lounge club? Make new friends, admiration from your peers? Take a poke at someone that can no longer defend herself here? IMO you're one of the last people on this site, that should be calling out anyone, about anything.
Well you may think I’m one of the last people that has the right to call anyone out about anything but personally I think that’s bs, if someone needs to be called out then they need to be called out. I was one of the first people to have a problem with lilyann and I knew she was a problem. I waited months literal months for a problem to go away and it finally did. I was overjoyed when I saw she was banned, I will not lie, I was happy when I saw it.
My purpose for putting that there was because personally I despised her and want to remember when my goal had been acheived.
Actually going back to that last comment,
why does it matter who calls someone out about a problem? Lilyann was a problem, I called her out before. It does not matter what my past is, yes I’ve said some stupid things, but that has absolutely nothing to do with if I call someone out for being a problem.
Anything? If someone is keeping a red tail catfish in a 10 gallon you think I shouldn’t call him out just because of my past?
In my opinion, the last thing you said is an asinine statement.
Hate me or love me, I’m here to stay.
