Um, you know that was a joke...cheez. Punchline, dude about a giant fish, ya know?

Yeah its a free world we know it. Just asked a question, not lookin' for combat. The question about the large fish being interesting is legit. Obviously something attracts them to some fishkeepers, I'm just trying to understand what. Nobody said anything about everybody being the same.
Ok didn’t get the inch per gallon joke. There’s no combat we are all just talking about a subject.

Have you ever been to a public aquarium and seen a massive fish and had that feeling of awe at the size of it?
Or heard the sound of a giant fish thump the water as it feeds? for an arapaima it’s almost like thunder.
I don’t know I guess it’s the cool factor to have something no one else does.
Of course some of these fish live a long time, are very social and become a loved pet.

Yup, used to feel that way about seeing killer whales (not a fish I know), wondering what they thought about being cooped up by humans. When I see fish that huge being kept I'm always curious about how interesting they are. Can you jump in the tank and swim / play with them? I've heard peacock bass are cool but everything I see just shows them swimming around like community fish. Maybe folks who keep such large fish can tell stories about how they are. There's not a lot out there (for obvious reasons) telling us what its like.

Check this feeding video.

I think I saw that one. Isn't that the 800 gallon? I love those catfish though but its a bit tight in there for them.

Would love to have a giraffe catfish but don't have the room...the smaller version would work though, its a variant. I think there's a guy online that has like a 1,000 gallon tank that he has to get up on a ladder to feed. He has a gorgeous huge catfish he plays with.

Like a 10 inch Oscar for a ten gallon?
Yeah. I got into it with a guy on FB last week over this stupidity.
He was like oh you have to multiply width x height x length.
So he was saying a ten inch Oscar that was two inches thick and three inches high would be good for life in a 60 gallon.
But didn’t take into account any other factors filter, tank mates, feeding or maintenance.

All you nay sayers are 100% the problem and root of it all. Grow up and get over it....

Au contraire, In fact I'd say irresponsible and uneducated fish keepers with attitudes like yours are the problem and root of it all. It's people like you who encourage others to buy fish they can't handle -- "Hey bro, yeah get that cool looking RTC, it'll be ok in your 75, later you can get a bigger tank, no worries!"

And then what happens? Best case scenario it ends up in a zoo, aquarium or fish shop, but worse case, and just as common if not more, it's released into a local body of water -- causing all kinds of problems -- and THAT is why we have more and more laws regulating these matters -- don't absurdly blame it on knowledgeable, experienced and responsible fish keepers trying to educate others and help them avoid problems down the road.

Some people miss the point. If the government can say no to my fish they can also say no to your fish! Believe me there are those is politics and government that would love to deny us all the right to keep anything they do not approve of.

Do you seriously think the gov't is going to start banning fish like Cichlids, Goldfish, Guppies or other fish that are not endangered in the wild (or a danger to local wildlife)? I'm no big gov't lover but overall the US has one of the best systems of wildlife protection in the world. It's not perfect but overall it works and there are good reasons for it -- no reason to bring in gov't control conspiracies etc.

Well, here in australia nearly everything is banned and if there is suspicion you have something you shouldn't then the fisheries dept. (canT recall the exact name of the govt dept.) can come to your house. If they find something they will pour bleach into every tank you have ,killing the fish and all microorganisms. There used to be a shop that specialised in cichlids near me who got their house raided a few times.
Doubt it will come to that over there but you never know.
