Hey all, just want to share my new direction with the 300g... Some of you might be familiar with my stock of the last few years, I got the tank almost all south American based around a wild rapps oscar and black aro, various plecs and cichlids Inc l095, true parrot, Geo's, chocolates, rapps 10" gold wolf.
Well I've sold em all, nearly, got a £1000 for the oscar but that's a different story lol, basically someone with too much money and me refusing to sell him immediately.

So of my original stock I have just;
6* 5-6" spanner barbs
14" Gibby plec with sentimental value.
11" hoplias australis

From my other tanks just to keep it busy;
(Although may stay if it works)
12" afer knife.
11" Midas male.

Recent upgrade;
7" bufonis cat

New addition;
10" wyckii cat

Growing out in my 350l ;
5-6" Channa Diplogramma

Wanting to buy;
New shipment of black wolf's coming in Friday at 5", very tempted to get one.

Should I buy a black wolf and see how they all do? M Moe
I am well aware of the potential of the wyckii, I've commed one in this tank before with Midas so I could end up selling and moving all the others out, fundementally I started all this because I wanted another wyckii.
The bufonis will go back in the 90g as will the Midas in due time, I might upgrade that tank to a 150g soon enough.
I've wanted a Diplo for years too and from my understanding 2ft seems to be average max size on these grown in aquaria, seem to communicate pretty well too.
I'm thinking the black wolf could go in with the Midas and bufonis in the future 150g...

So final stock in 7'*34"*2' tall.
Usual aquaria grown max size
Wyckii 2ft
Diplogramma 2ft ( I had a pal with one at 5 years was 18")
Australis 15"
Gibby been 14" for 5 years
Afer knife been 12" for over a year
Spanner barbs seem Full grown

Plus maybe a black wolf 15" in 5 years?
Mostly comes down to the wyckiis's personality I think, the others can work, even with the Midas... All about the wyckii...

Tank as of now. Tiles are 1ft wide so you can invision 2ft fish in there, 23" aro didn't look cramped at all...

Few more:-) wyckii is a little worse for wear ATM, possible the afer knife, bufonis or spanners picking at him a bit.

When you say rapps, what do you mean? Jeff Rapps of TUIC doesn't sell in UK, does he?

1000 pounds for an oscar? You pulling our leg?

IDK what to tell you, bro. There are many fish to worry about even other than the wyckii. There is no sense that I see that we could talk into you :) It's a blindfolded balancing act 50 feet up in the air... but your saving grace is that you're prepared to separate any and all.

headbanger_jib headbanger_jib has a diplogramma, I think. He may give you some pointers... with his scarred pointing finger...

He doesn't sell here but there's one store owner (rob at Linc's fish) who does rapps and cota orders a few times a year.
Tbh I don't think they cared he was wild caught and special, they are obviously loaded and wanted to buy him after my refusal, they threw £1000 out and I accepted lol.
Their p.a collected him and the l095 four days later and they transferred me the money via bank transfer...
Crazy I know but true, hand on heart.

And yes I agree it's very risky, I may scrub the black wolf and see how it goes. Basically it's my current stock as in the pic above plus the wyckii grown up and a decent sized Channa.
We will see how it goes, dividers at the ready:-)

I know nothing about most of the fish you keep but you mentionax size of some of those fish as 24". To me that seems very big for a 7' tank... So this just seems like a bad idea all around.

Not even 3 times the fish body length to swim across the tank..

Yet we see people say a 4 foot tank is not suitable for a 12" fish (which I agree) that has 4x it's length in swimming room.

Please help me understand why you want to cramp large monster in a 7 foot aquarium?

I see my small 6" festae in my 4 foot tank and think wow she is getting big for this tank (she is going in an 8foot soon enough) which again is 8x her length and she using all if it with very little effort.

I see where you coming from tbf.
Although I had a 23" aro in there that didn't look cramped imo?
The wyckii cat I had before was 22" and he was fine, not a very active fish, I guess to some degree it depends on the fish. I'd be surprised if the Diplo passes a true 18" myself, most sites have em listed at 480mm.
