Jardini Tankmates

It's hard to say if the fish you mentioned (Oscar, Jag, Midas, etc) will get along with other fish, but the chances of them not getting along are gonna be far greater than the chances of them getting along. I use to have a jag and he was hyper-aggressive. Anything that came near his tank, even me walking up to it, would get him flared up and attacking the glass. I currently have an 11" oscar that is very aggressive and O can\t put anything in with him or he would kill it. The previous owner of him got rid of him because of that reason when I picked him up last year.

One thing with clown loaches is that they have switchblade like barbs that will pop out and get the fish lodged in the throat of a fish that tries to eat them, so that's something to keep in mind.

Growing up fish together from very small can help a bit, but even then it's still pretty dicey with the species you are talking about unless you have a really REALLY big tank.

hmm I see i guess I’ll have to reconsider, I’ve got two questions, would a Dovii and Jardini and maybe some schooling fish work or do I have more of a chance with the original idea?

I have never kept a Dovii myself but I have a few friends that have. They are even more aggressive than the others mentioned so I think the chance of keeping anything at all with a dovii would be slim to none, but I'll let someone else that owns one chime in on that.

I thought they would be more aggresive hm I’ll need to do more research I’ll keep you updated on any ideas

I have a 12in oscar who is a gentle giant and then right across the room there's another oscar who I can't put with most other fish. I have a 10in midas X texas who is hyper aggressive to fish her size but gets on beautifully in a tank of barbs and common goldfish. You would think that'd be a tornado of death lol.

Research is great and always recommended. But just know that even when you lay careful plans the fish may toss 'em all out of the tank and make you start over lol

What size is the 6x tank?
Tankmates with a jardini will probably work until after it hits a foot or so, but I doubt they will work out long term in a 180 or similar. Jardini will probably kill them, maybe in a 300+ you would have luck with it, even then jardini are known to kill tankmates often

I’ll have to keep that in mind then. I will carry on doing research but I’ll also have a backup plan in case it goes all wrong

The tank size is a 6x2x2. Hm I guess the chances are that a Jardini will most likely kill the tankmates. Is there another arowana that could work with this size tank and with tankmates?

Nothing to add regarding the jardini and tankmates but i think water quality is going to be an issue with the current stock your planning.

Honestly that tank is quite small for arowana long term, it would maybe juuuust barely do for an adult jardini. But in a tank which is minimum for a very aggressive fish, tankmates are going to be very tough to pull off. There are plenty of other cool fish which would work with Oscars in a 180, such as flagtail prochilodus, pinktail chalceus, to name a couple. I will move this thread to the arowana subforum where more arowana keepers will hopefully respond. But I think if you want to try a Jar in a 180, it's going to have to be alone, and if you want a community of fish, an arowana isn't going to be the right fish for you, in this size tank.
