Jardini Tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I thought leichardti were said to be a little calmer than jars ?

Honestly that tank is quite small for arowana long term, it would maybe juuuust barely do for an adult jardini. But in a tank which is minimum for a very aggressive fish, tankmates are going to be very tough to pull off. There are plenty of other cool fish which would work with Oscars in a 180, such as flagtail prochilodus, pinktail chalceus, to name a couple. I will move this thread to the arowana subforum where more arowana keepers will hopefully respond. But I think if you want to try a Jar in a 180, it's going to have to be alone, and if you want a community of fish, an arowana isn't going to be the right fish for you, in this size tank.
Hm I see I guess I’ll leave the arowana then until in the future where I may get a bigger tank. Anyone know anything about the giant gourami?

24+ inches. It's best to stick with a species that doesn't get above 14" total length, especially if this is the first time you are dealing with big fish. There are many solo aggressive fish that will do well in a 180 alone.

I have been thinking about keeping a solo aggresive fish however I just don’t know if they will be as fun to keep as a community fish tank. Has anyone here kept solo aggresive fish?

I keep a wet pet tank with a midas cichlid and two community tanks. I like both types of setups a lot. A single species tank is a lot like having a dog or cat. The larger, territorial, aggressive cichlids typically have loads more personality than your typical community fish or even oscars imo.
