pool filter sand that is safe for aquarium help

Dang what do u use so hose doesnt spray to hard on sand?

I just used my python hooked up to the kitchen sink. I don’t have crazy water pressure either.

Outside I just put the hose down into the sand and let it kick up all the small stuff. Let it overflow till it starts running out clear.
I think the best thing to do is work with small amounts of sand. It takes longer, but you get it cleaner.

Ok Im gonna have to clean it now the bag was dirty but sand inside is clean. I think ill clean 20-30lbs at a time.

Is it fine if I don’t wash it because im starting a new tank and don’t have the patience to wash 100+ lbs of sand and I plan on having a open tank with one decent sized piece of driftwood in the center but if I decide to add some lime stones I have will lay them out first.

I have it in all of my tanks and have never washed it. Maybe alittle cloudiness, but nothing bad or that didn't go away pretty quick. I use the brand from Leslie's pool supply.

I know it can be a pain, but you will regret it if you don’t rinse it first. Sand always needs to be rinsed well before it’s used. Even then you still might deal with some smaller particles in the water for a bit.
Wats best way to spread around on 30in high tank?

None of mine are that tall, but I like to use a bucket(ice cream bucket) and a plastic cup. Then I can scoop the sand up and place it exactly where I want it. And as mentioned before, place down any rock before hand.

For the tank I sent the pic of, that was 50kg of sand I had to wash in a little bucket. Just did a couple of washes each day. All at once would have killed my back bending over the bath.
Once you start to clean the sand you will see why we say you should clean the sand. Those particles will settle on everything and each time substrate is disturbed or stirred around you will get the dust again in your water.

Its a little bit more work in the beginning, but you only have to do it once. Its not like sand washing is a weekly thing lol. Bite the bullet and just get it done :) you will be glad you did.
