fibreglass tank

So, i've been all round the houses on what to do for my next upgrade. Glass, way too heavy. Acrylic, way too expensive. A plywood build was looking firm favourite until I saw some fibreglass tanks with a viewing window. They are drillable for filtration, a lot lighter than glass and cheap as chips compared to acrylic. A 300g is £675. Granted, they are not exactly beautiful but this will be going in my fish room, not the living room. I don't want it sat on the floor so i'll be building a stand for it.

I know the pentair tanks are quite popular, this is very very similar, if not identical to a pentair. Just wondering if any of you guys have fibreglass tanks and maybe forewarn me of potential problems, if any, with this type of set up.
 
Ive been looking into them myself, seem pretty good overall. Like you said light weight, easy to drill, cheeper then the others. I've seen them "skinned" and they look great. I was thinking in wall like a 600g or so. :headbang2
My only concern is most are blue I guess you can paint or 3d back ground and the viewing panels are on the smaller side.

I hate those blue ones, they are hideous. But I had black interior and black exterior as an option so went with that, happy days :grinyes:. The one i'm getting comes in 3 sizes, 200g, 300g and 575g. The 575g tank is only £1050 but that size is a little too big for the space I have alloted so it's the 300g for me. Plus i'm led to believe they're pretty much bullet proof. And yes, my one and only real concern is that the viewing panels are small. But I think that's the only real downside.

Yes, I wanted fiber glass myself but I only found them for sale when I had already bought mine which is from MPDE, also very strong.

I watch my fish with videos. My phone is actually water proof and can take underwater footage so I have no worries. I even see the fish better as I can zoom in on them after, plus they wash my face every morning :)

I've seen footage of yours, it's nice. I'd be interested how you're filtering it. I'm thinking of going real basic. Just sitting it on a diy stand and having a large drum at the side with pump, heaters, media and floss in. It's not even important that it's silent because it's in my fish room and it's not a family room.

Well, mine is noisy, as it is also not inside the sitting area so I dare splash the surface a lot.
I actually have only 3 external filters, each has sponges for pre-filters, and a huge amount of emersed plants. Mine sits on the floor, or they'd be no room for the plants above. The oldest palm is about 6 years old and is nearly reaching the ceiling.

Do you pics of the new tank ? Ive thought about the pentairs too but the looks turn me off

The ones I found locally here were actually black but I was looking for a round tank and window was not on my "want" list. One of the LFS around here had bought the actual machine to make them themselves as they use them as breeding tanks. I accidentally found out they were selling them when showing me the fish around as I asked where they got the tanks from. They hadn't even advertised them...They were breeding common plecs at the time :grinno:
