If the problem does end up parasites and I get the fish clear do u think the fish should recover and grow properly or is there a chance they will end up stunted?

Yes, as long as they're young fish chances are they'll pick up and grow normally.
You'll never know if the meds are what helped but you give the fish a fair start that way and remove a potential stressor that can carry long lasting effects on the fish well being and can trigger secondary bacterial infections too.

This wasn't Heros, but I've had cases where a fish doesn't grow at all for many months, then I finally hit on the adjustment that made them happy, after which they had a growth spurt and caught up to normal adult size. (one case I remember was a frontosa that for some reason hid a lot and wasn't happy in one tank, gave him a different tank and tankmates and he went on a growth spurt where he gained at least 3 inches in just a couple of months). Won't always happen but it can happen.

And like I say, I've raised spawns of sevs where out of the group a few grew much slower, but I kept them long enough to see them reach normal adult size eventually. Not predicting it as a certainty, but it happens ime.
