I've noticed the vast majority of members and posts are from/reference Southern California. Garden Grove, CA in particular seems to be a hub of sorts.

Just curious, is there a reason for this that anyone knows of? Did the forum start in SoCal, is it just a popular area for the hobby, etc.?

Anyone out there from central Indiana!?

I wouldn't say 90%, but a large part of the population is californian. I think it's just where people like this sort of thing. A lot of members are from NJ/NYC as well. Those seem to be the two largest member bases, also just two of the most populated states in general, which probably contributes.
I will say, the amount of great deals in CA on the marketplace, is always frustrating, since I am not in CA :)

California is the most populous state, southern California is the most populous part of that state, keeping big fish costs big money and a lot of rich people live in southern California.

Yup. We also have cheap labor and expensive land, so if you aspire to the aristocracy (or to work for us) this is the place.

There's a reason for the prices.

Wait until you want to sell your used tank for more than peanuts.

hmmmmmm.........

You have many rich folks who don't buy used, and many poor folks who can't pay much.

That polarity tweaks the markets for everything.

Also lots of divorces = selling the fish tank
