I did not acclimate my new fish

My friend bought 1 tiger oscar 5-6 inch and 1 giant gourami 4-5 inch this afternoon and when he came back from a 4 hr ride he dumped the fish straight in the tank with the water from the store.What can he do?

Tell friend to look for heavy breathing. The temperature and the water parameter between the bag and aquarium will be the biggest concern. Hopefully there wasn't a huge difference in temperature. The only thing you could do is observe the Oscar and GIant Gourami for a few days.

At those sizes as long as there isnt anything wrong with the water they went into, the fish will probably be able to handle it. It's not recommended but fish are often tougher than we thing. Cichlids especially, as long as the water isn't toooo far off from what they were in, or wrong for the species (ie; tanganyikans in new acidic water), they should be fine after a little while even if they were just plopped in.

If you transfer fish from a container that has a lower temperature and TDS (total dissolved solid level) than the tank, not an issue. Your friend should have put the fish in a net over a bucket, and just transferred the fish without the container water into a quarantine tank.

Thanks for the info! I told him to observe his tank daily and im probably gonna have to go there myself tmr to have a look

Yed he shd of i forgot to tell him this info before buying as he is new into the hobby but he shd of did extensive research

Thank u I really hope the fish will survive cause I myself would like to see these fish once they r full grown
