So I’ve had two peacocks for about 9 months now. And as they have grown their colors have not come in like most do as they get bigger. One is really pale colored and one is really dark in color. Any idea of why this might be? Or things I can do to fix it? Both act normal and eat normal. Thanks for any help. Tank info...
150gal
Nitrate-40ppm
Nitrite-0ppm
Ph-6.8
Temp-84degrees
Tank mates are silver arrow, stingray, hybrid striped bass, and another peacock.1378114

Hmmm... I know one of my peacock bass gets dark when he gets stressed out or my water isn’t right... but only one changes like that... maybe those two are a little more sensitive? Also I know this is weird but try staying up late and having the tank lights off... check them then to see if they change in color or look better lol, good luck man!

Thanks! At this point I will try anything lol

RD. RD. Heres another cichla with problem i wanna point towards hex. Whats your point on the holes on its head?

Seems something is stressing them. The second pic appears to show a scrape and a head pit. Probably what concerns Tobias.
Nitrates a little high but not saying that's the cause.
I would lower the temp. Keep around 80.
Higher temps can promote virulent bacteria.
What are the dimensions of the tank?
What are you feeding them?

I have a suspicion it may be a little crowded and another fish maybe dominating?
What behaviors of all the fish have you observed?

Also, what is the water change routine?
A crowded tank can be tricky. Usually some fish dominate and stress other fish. You can change water but hard to change their behavior.

Hi, thanks for the replay. The scrape on the head is from feeding it came up to the top fast and actually hit the lid of the tank the pit I'm not sure what that is. I can try to get the nitrates down some and temp down. It is 60x24x24. I feed them frozen tilapia. Honestly the behavior of the fish are all pretty chill. No chasing each other around or anything. These two have been tank mates since they were only 2-3''. Until it's feeding time they are all pretty relaxed. I do 50% once a week. Sometimes if i feed them heavily I'll do the 50% and a 20-30% two or three days later.
