Problems of a fish keeper.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember I changed the water valve in the sink but forgotten to tighten the shark bite to make the nut tight and turned back on the main waterline, lol it was a jet stream of cold water and I remember yelling at my 4 year old to bring me a bucket

I've flooded my living room (still do) many times while juggling maintenance between my 2 tanks. Might be doing it again in a few hours from now.

Or you do turn the power back on but forgot to open the valves, and the impeller is going for 2 days before you realize the valves are still closed... :uhoh:

what will happen? Because i usually close the valves and leave the filter running till my water change is done.... depending on which tank... 1.5-2.5 hrs each time

once i forgot to open the valves till the next water change which is a week later ... had to wash the canister filter

Depends a lot on the filter, how often you do it. Best case it just gets hot. I've had pumps get hot enough though to deform the impeller/motor housing.

Protip: Even if you're sitting next to your tank while doing it, don't play video games while waiting for it to drain.

Protip 2: REAALLY DO NOT play video games while waiting for it to fill.

It's a weekly thing when i do water change, touch wood so far so good.... i always thought there is still water in the canister so no reason to overheat..... while if i off the canister during that period, the water may go stale

So your options are the water goes stale vs the water goes stale and your canister filter motor overheats? What are you gaining by leaving them on?
