My neighbor got stung by a widow and said it was like a bad bee sting

I was only 4 years old when I got bit.

But I saw a 40 y.o. friend get bit by a black widow, and while the bite wasn't that terrible he was sick for a week.

I haven't seen him in years but for months afterwards he would tell me that he had random and mysterious recurring pains at the site of the bite.

Hello; A lot of spiders do not have fangs big enough to pierce human skin so are not a problem. Those that do can cause bad wounds simply because of the nature of the spider venom. They do not have teeth so inject chemicals that both paralyse and start to digest their prey. They then suck the liquefied prey body parts out.
When they bite us this venom causes a wound where our flesh sort of rots and takes a long time to heal. Some like the widow types and the brown recluse are more toxic for us that some others.
I leave most spiders alone around my place because they get the other pesky insects. But for some reason the black widows do like the water meter boxes. I have killed one in my box and think there is another currently. The water meter guys have told me they find them often.

What work do you do?

I do warehouse maintenance for home Depot. We have a couple million square feet of warehouse within a few miles of each other. The widows were in the newer building we are just getting ready to open.
