I have a 3 year old green terror (saum) that I got from someone 3 weeks ago. He is eating fine, acting normal, and looks good. However, he is heavily breathing and has been for the 3 weeks I have had him.

He is in a 55 gallon by himself that is filtered with a fluval 306 canister, an AC 70, and another job (forget brand), so I have lots of aeration and water movement. Water parameters are great with no nitrites or ammonia and low nitrates. Ph is good too. Any suggestions? Should I treat him with any meds as a precaution?

Wouldn’t treat with any meds. Try reduce lights and keep ur water consistent (low nitrates). Did it have tankmates? Decor/plants? Is ur tank empty? What was the old tank water quality like?

Not sure of the wc of previous tank or what the decor was like. He was with another gt/acara mix in a 60 gallon before. He has some wood, sand, and fake plants that I stole from my other tanks, how I usually equip my cichlid tanks.

78-80 farenheit
I'm not sure then, sorry. How's he doing now? Have you tried dimming the lights? Could be just stress from being moved

Yeah. He spends most of the day with no lights. I'm not sure if I should just treat him with some broad spectrum parasite meds?

I'd say give it a day or so, if it goes away great. If it develops or persists, I'd personally try some meds. It's up to you though

It's been 3 weeks and it seems to be getting worse.

I'd say go for the meds, if it's gill flukes and gets too late it would be harder to treat.
