Greasing filter impellers.

Time has come where several of my filter's impellers are needing to be greased. I have both marine-safe multi-lube, and 100% petroleum jelly. So... where exactly does the lube need to go? On the impeller? On the impeller rod? On just the metal of the impeller?

Illustrations would be appreciated, but aren't necessary. Thanks to everyone in advance! ?
 
on the rod. the drive itself is a mag drive, it never touches anything, so just on the spindle.

its also a good ideal while you have it out to clean out the impeller chamber, again you do not want any kind of a grease or oil there, stuff will stick to it clogging your impeller or worse if running a sand sub straight will cause ware to the chamber.

thanks you so much! that makes perfect sense, even though i use seachem red flourite, the dust and small sediment from that kicks up literally all the time! i really appreciate it!

yeah! just regular vaseline! i've actually tried one filter with the multi-lube, and one with regular vaseline, and suprisingly, i've discovered that the filter with the regular vaseline is much quieter than the one with the multi-lube! noice, noice!

I'd have thought any lube on the impeller shaft would just be rinsed off fairly quickly? Not a lot of water flow, but there is some.
