Some of these loaches have been around since 2003. They were in my mom's tank, then mine, then RD, and back to mine.
RD has some nice ones too. They really are a great fish and will fill the whole tank if they are unmolested by other fish. I always enjoy watching these guys unique behavior.

My Y. Modesta & Berdmorei Loaches live in my African Cichlid tank. The Red Tails are three years old & built like linebackers. The Berdmorei is a little younger & is fearless. Great clean up crew.View attachment 1390938View attachment 1390939View attachment 1390940
I love modesta I had a group of 9 but had to get rid of them when my bass got too big for them. I found my biggest bass with a tail sticking out of its mouth breathing heavy. The spines got lodged into the bass’ throat and it couldn’t spit it out for about 20-30 min. I thought for sure both fish were goners.

Eventually the bass spit it out and both fish are still alive to this day. The red tails are tough as nails.

I was out and about today and swung by one of the LFS down here and saw these two guys for sale, they were asking for $180 for the large one and $120 for the smaller one.

It's hard to say how big they were but the large one was the biggest I've seen in person and I'd say might be 8-9", it had a longer hot dog like shape. The smaller one was built more like the ones I have at home and had a nice thick belly.

They didn't budge on prices so I passed, I'm not sure what these guys should be going for so I figured I should ask here. Does anyone know if these are fair prices? Apparently both of them have been in the store for 4 months according to an employee.

I did snag a nice piece of driftwood for the 125g. I'll probably be moving the loaches to the 125g and the planted community into the 75g in the near future.Loaches at LFS.jpgNew wood by 125g.jpg

Seems about typical to be around that price at that size. Especially in a lfs. I saw a trio on kijiji a few weeks back that were similar size for $400 and they didn’t last long before they were gone.
