Hi,

Have a query, is there anything such as minimum or maximum operational time for canister filters.

Will the canisters burn out if kept operational continiously.

Thanks in advance.

In response to your question, no, there is not a minimum or maximum amount of operational time. These are made for aquarists in mind and we need our filters running 24/7 so they were made to run nonstop.

Agreed that canister filters are meant to run continuously as long as they have enough water to operate properly AND keep the impeller cool and lubricated with water.

You're worried that they'll burn out if left on? You should never turn them off.

(Except when cleaning them, or whatever)
yes was worried about them burning out and hence manually keeping the on for 16 hrs or so.

Thanks for the guidance will run them 24/7 now.

thanks for the advice..will implement it

All you've been doing is killing off all the bacteria in them and basically making them almost useless.
Correct here. Without any flow the bacteria can not get any oxygen and eventually die out, leaving your fish vulnerable to ammonia. Canisters are perfectly capable of running all day so don't worry about anything!
