Nice fish, I think your Dovii is a male. You should probably take that green light from the wife and set up at least a 220 in the meantime. Actually, always take the green light as soon as possible, that window can close and you will be kicking yourself.
I was also leaning towards a male but not positive. Yah I know what you mean. Unfortunately, she for some reason doesn’t want me to get the tank until we finish the basement. I’ll probably keep bugging her though and maybe get her to change her mind lol.

Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea. Honestly, I’m just taking it a day at a time. If I’m able to get a big tank soon enough and these fish all go in it and cooperate with each other, then that is the goal. Otherwise, I’m just keeping an eye on the fish, seeing if I end up liking the personality of one much more than the rest and re home accordingly when the time comes.

Sounds like you have a plan. I hope it all goes well!

Get to work and finish that basement bud. Do it yourself, studs, drywall, tack strips and carpets and your in. Bust your hump and you might be able to work a 300+. Perfect time to marry yourself to a project.
Unfortunately money is the only obstacle at this point.

Nice looking fish! Always fun to have a grow-out tank. Seems like you already know this is a temporary situation so no need to beat a dead horse. The Dovii is most likely the outlier, the other fish could maybe live together in something lioke a 180-300 depending on attitudes. If money is the main object, if you are on the west coast look in the classifieds/craigslist! I always see huge tanks for sale in california. If you're an east coaster like me it will be harder but there are still deals to be had.

I’m actually a mid west guy. I have been keeping an eye out on Craigslist and marketplace. The Dovii’s color and personality is starting to show now. At this rate, depending on how it all works out, I will be ok with keeping the Dovii as a wet pet and let him have the 180+ in the basement to himself. Unless he allows some fish to live with him in it of course. Thanks for the reply!

At this point the 4 fish that I have taken the liking to the most are the Dovii, Jaguar, JD, and RD.

The Dovii and RD are the more outgoing ones, especially the RD. He is almost constantly swimming at the front of the tank, waiting for food. He seems to be growing pretty quickly as well.

I really like the appearance of the JD and he has a little bit of sentimental value at this point because I have had him the longest. He does swim around on the bottom and hide more so than I would like though.

Last but not least the Jaguar. When he comes out to eat or goes nose to nose with another fish and shows his colors, he is a sweet looking fish. Unfortunately he stays in one corner of the tank, digs holes, and defends his territory pretty much all the time (other than feeding time).

The other fish I could do without to be honest. So that is kind of where I’m at as far as dwindling down the pack. Go figure the 4 fish I take a liking to are the 4 that will grow the biggest and probably be the most aggressive lol.
