Central American Community Grow Out

Nice looking fish! Always fun to have a grow-out tank. Seems like you already know this is a temporary situation so no need to beat a dead horse. The Dovii is most likely the outlier, the other fish could maybe live together in something lioke a 180-300 depending on attitudes. If money is the main object, if you are on the west coast look in the classifieds/craigslist! I always see huge tanks for sale in california. If you're an east coaster like me it will be harder but there are still deals to be had.

Agree with this ?
I’d get 2 tanks. One for the dovii and one for the others. Both tanks would need to be at least 200g probably more.
The problem with “grow out” tanks is they are temporary. It’s always best to have the final tank up and running so it’s cycled. One day the **** will hit the fan with aggression and there won’t be anywhere to put the fish. I am going to buy a 200g+ to replace my 150g. I won’t try and grow anything out until I have that tank and it’s cycling. Too many bad things can happen. And I’m not stocking with aggressive brutes.

So my fish are pretty skittish and usually hide when we are walking around, which is pretty annoying IMO. So here is what I have been contemplating. I plan on for sure leaving my 2 giant danios, BN pleco, and male and female convict (both 2” - 3”). That leaves;

(1) male Dovii (5”-6”)
(1) male JD (6”)
(1) leaning towards male Jaguar (5”-6”)
(1) unknown sex RD (3”-3.5”)

The JD is tank boss, followed by Dovii, Jaguar, male convict, RD.

The JD in particular will have random freak out moments and scare the other fish as well.

Plan is to probably end up keeping 1 of the above fish when they get bigger and will no longer tolerate each other, and move it to a larger tank down the line.

Would it be beneficial for me to just go ahead and take the single fish route now rather than wait until they get larger and more aggressive towards eachother? Mainly, I’m curious if it would help with the skittish issue, because the fish all get along for the most part now. Thanks!

Im a big fan of salvin's cichlids. Id love to have a 40-55 gallon planted breeding tank with them.
Anyway, everybody looks good but can I request some more pics of the salvin? Thanks

I actually have rehomed the Salvini a week or so ago. Started to dwindle down the pack and unfortunately I just didn’t see myself keeping it long term. Was a good looking fish though. Appreciate the comment.

Aww that's too bad. Did you say that in a pervious post? (I skimmed). They are beautiful fish! ❤
