it depends. Tetras/barbs/rasboras/pencil fish aren't really a gamble b/c you know that all of the fish look the same. Same with many other fish. If you are getting one unique fish, like this one, a picture is very useful. :)

Yep, good customer service is important. There are few options out there as well, like aquacraze and Chris, if you catch MFS (multiple flowerhorn syndrom).

It's a gamble in terms of size, age, color, health for those fish as well, less risk for sure, same as buying clothes online.

Yes, too rich for me as well. I would never spend more than 200. Usually best bargains are fish with smaller hump and everything else (body shape, face, color, pearls, health) good. Some choose deformity like huge belly to get better of other traits for cheaper price, not my cup of tea.
